Create shift templates

If your site has standard work shift times, you should configure your shift templates so that you can quickly create work shifts in XPS.

A work shift is designated time for labor and equipment to work a vessel. Shift templates provide a fast way to create work shifts based on the standard information set of templates. They reduce the amount of data entry required. You can always create work shifts manually if you do not have shift templates or need to create a special shift.

You can create multiple shift templates, but template shift times cannot overlap. For example, you can create three 8-hour shifts starting at 12 am, 8 am, and 4 pm, but you cannot add another late morning shift starting at 10 am because that would overlap your other existing shifts.

You should create the templates for your usual shifts, such as Day, Afternoon, and Night.

If you create parallel shift patterns for the same timeframes, the first part of the name must be the same for both, such as Night Mother and Night Feeder. For more information, see Label shift templates (on page 1).

To create a shift template:

  1. In an XPS client, select Planning Maintain Work Shifts.

  1. In the Work Shifts window, from the Display list, select Show Shift Templates.

  2. In the Shift Templates window, from the Actions list, select New Template.

  3. In the Edit Crane Shift dialog box, add information in the following fields:

For more information on the fields and options in this dialog box, see Edit Crane Shift dialog box (on page 1).

  1. Click OK to save the shift template.

The new shift template now appears in the Shift Templates window.

If your site creates shifts automatically, XPS evaluates templates every two hours to determine if it needs to create a new actual shift from the templates. Alternately, you can restart your server, which will trigger the creation of the actual shifts. See also Create work shifts automatically (on page 1).
